How to Install Composite Siding Using Starter & In-Between Clips

Our composite siding system is designed for clean, modern installs with concealed fastening using starter clips and in-between clips. Proper installation ensures long-term durability, expansion control, and a seamless finish.

Below is a step-by-step guide to installing your composite siding correctly.

Step 1: Determine the Substrate (What You’re Installing Over)

Before installation, identify the surface type:

✅ If Installing Over Existing Wood

If you are installing directly over solid, structurally sound wood sheathing:

  • No wood battens or furring strips are required.
  • Ensure the surface is level, dry, and properly secured.

⚠️ If Installing Over Stucco, Concrete, or Cinder Block

You must install wood furring strips prior to siding installation.

Recommended setup:

  • Use wood furring strips compatible with composite siding.
  • Standard panel length: 103 inches
  • Install approximately 4 furring strips per panel section (minimum).
  • Ensure strips are level and securely anchored to the wall.
  • Furring strips create proper ventilation, structural support, and fastening points.

Step 2: Install the Starter Clips

Starter clips secure the bottom row of panels and establish alignment for the entire wall.

Pro Tip:
Position starter clips so they land near or directly at panel ends. This prevents edges from lifting or popping out over time.

  • Install clips level across the base of the wall.
  • Ensure consistent spacing aligned with furring strips (if applicable).

This first row determines the straightness of the entire installation.

Step 3: Install the First Row of Panels

  • Place the first row of composite siding panels onto the starter clips.
  • Ensure panels are fully seated and aligned.
  • Complete the entire bottom row before moving upward.

This row must be perfectly level — any misalignment will carry through the wall.

Step 4: Install the In-Between Clips

Once the first row is secured:

  • Insert the clips (single screw hole facing upward).
  • Press each clip firmly down into place.
  • Screw them securely into the furring strip or wood backing.

⚠️ Important:
Ensure clips are fully pressed down and tightened. Loose clips can cause visible gaps at seams and inconsistent spacing.

These clips lock each row into place while allowing proper expansion and contraction.

Step 5: Continue Panel Installation

Repeat the process:

  1. Install next row of panels.

  2. Insert clips.

  3. Press down firmly.

  4. Secure with screws.

Continue until the wall section is complete.

Always check level alignment periodically as you progress upward.

Step 6: Finish with Matching Corner Trim

Complete the installation using matching composite corner trim.

Trim can be:

  • Glued down
  • Screwed down
  • Or both (recommended for maximum durability)

Ensure tight, clean corner transitions for a professional finish.

Additional Installation Tips

Allow panels to acclimate before installation.

Pre-drill pilot holes slightly larger than screw diameter to allow expansion.

Do not over-tighten screws.

Follow manufacturer spacing guidelines.
